Unique Digitisation Service
Eppik’s Points of Difference
Museum-Grade Camera Systems
These novel camera systems were developed especially for Eppik by one of the world’s most highly regarded image and photography specialists. Manufactured in Europe, these camera systems are sought after by top museums around the world because of their unique technology and the new system developed for Eppik will be the first time this technology has been used for more mainstream applications.
Not only does this system provide far better results than existing professional medium-format cameras and flat-bed scanners, but it will be much easier to operate, which ensures we digitise to the highest quality every time.
Technically, our cameras shoot at 8000 x 13000 Pixel RGB which corresponds to 312 Mpixels, with true RGB 48Bit output at 400dpi.Beyond the dpi resolution, it is its unique capture system which we have found captures all the detail needed to reprint small images up to A1 size and in fact exceeds the depth of detail obtained by other camera systems at 600dpi. The advantage is also that the capture is faster and files are more manageable, without any compromise on render quality.
Thanks to this image quality, you can zoom into each picture and discover details you had never seen before, crop them any way you like and reprint them in practically any size, all this without leaving the platform. (Max. scan size 50.8 cm x 82.55 cm)
Our digitisers will gain special training in using the new technology but especially in handling your albums, using white gloves, ensuring all photos and supports are treated with extra care and attention. We like to digitise your albums as they appear in real life, including all the inserts, letters, tickets, creases, etc. so that the digital copy retains the authenticity and character of the original album.
Scanners are limited in size, have no depth of field, apply harsh lighting, and often require you to remove the pictures from the albums. Our cameras take the whole pages using soft lighting to retain the real life aspect and the resulting images are still crisp and clear.
Smartphones are fine if you just want to capture a few individual pictures, but will not be able to capture whole albums at the same speed and quality as our systems.
Professional medium-format cameras can achieve great results and in fact that is how we started digitising our albums in the early days of Eppik. However, these tend to be bulky and require a more lengthy set-up by an experienced photographer. Our new camera systems in comparison are much easier to set-up and operate and produce even greater detail.
There is just no other system that can produce such results. We know, we tested many, and we were just blown away by our new camera systems. We worked in close partnership with our camera makers to adapt their systems to our needs and ensure our service to you is as efficient as possible, providing museum-grade scans of your albums as quickly as possible and at affordable rates.
Advanced Cropping Tools
Once the albums are digitised, our specially developed cropping algorithms will automatically detect and crop the album’s outside edges but also each individual picture inside.
This means you can view a digital version of your whole album but also view each picture individually and zoom into the detail.
Cropping automatically also means we can supply you with a finished album much faster and without any further work or cost required. We thought we would do all the heavy-lifting for you and have not spared a single effort in making the whole digitisation process as fast and efficient for you so you can enjoy your pictures in an entirely new way and add value to your physical albums. Indeed, the digitisation is just the first step in safeguarding, sharing and enhancing your life stories. We are proud to be by your side and enable you to enrich your family history for future generations.
